On January 2, 2016 more than 600 people attended the special evening organized for the newly arrived Syrian-Armenians families. Officials present were Federal MPs Eva Nassif and Faycal El-Khoury, Vice-President of the City of Montreal Harout Chitilian, Veronique Papineau representing the Hon. Mélanie Joly and Laval City Councillor Aline Dib.

On this special occasion, Ms. Anait Aleksanian, General-Director of CACI was awarded the CAPAC (Canadian Armenian Political Affairs Committee) Award of Excellence for her tremendous efforts in welcoming the Syrian-Armenian families. Also receiving the Excellence Award were MPs Eva Nassif and Faycal El-Khoury for their friendship and support towards the Armenian community. The awards were given by AGBU Montreal Chairman Chahé Tanachian and AGBU Central Board Member Dr. Yervant Zorian.
