AGBU

Montreal, October 26, 2011 – AGBU Montreal participated in a special event honoring Stephane Dion, MP for St. Laurent-Cartierville, for his 15 years of service to the public as the MP in the Canadian House of Commons.

“We are a very important community organization within the riding of Mr. Dion”, said Aram Yacoubian, the new chairman of AGBU Montreal. “He has certainly distinguished himself as a great Canadian, but also as a true friend of the Armenian people, and we are proud to have him as our Member of Parliament”.

Apart from Mr. Yacoubian, the AGBU delegation included Executive Board member Mr. Varujan Artokun, as well as former chairmen Mr. Paul Kichian and Mr. Viken L. Attarian.

The event included the presence of several current and former political dignitaries as well as the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Mr. Bob Rae.

During his illustrious political career, Mr. Dion has held numerous key cabinet positions, such as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Environment. He has also been the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and has held the position of Leader of the Opposition. Mr. Dion is also the author of the Clarity Act for Canadian Unity.

Stephane Dion has been an ardent supporter of the Armenian community and had consistently supported all the efforts of the recognition of the Genocide of Armenians in Canada.
