DONE, OVER WITH, CANADA OWNS HOCKEY

Montreal, February 28, 2010- The “Golden Moment” in Olympic hockey found its place at AGBU when enthusiasts shared an evening of excitement and camaraderie while viewing the much anticipated Canada/USA confrontation that culminated the Vancouver 2010 Olympic games.
All seemed to be well into the second period whilst Canada was up 2-0. Twice, when the puck penetrated the opponent’s net, applause and cheers were accompanied by screams from the avid fans. We even had our own red-donned mascot, the chairman of the Sports Committee Levon, who paraded about with his Canadian flag alternating between kitchen duty and his cheerleading expertise.
Obviously, the first US goal was met with perceivable silence and the second one with downright disbelief! As the game went into overtime, all eyes were glued to the giant screen. And then, out of nowhere, Sid the Kid’s tie-breaking goal and the gold medal was clinched. Phew! Relief! Even though some went about saying that a victory was never in doubt, many of us had palpitations that hit the roof.
Hockey fever had engulfed AGBU. What a perfect proud canadian moment. I could have sworn I heard many of those present singing O Canada , or some lame version of it, when the flag of victory was raised during the medal ceremony.
As for the AGBU Gold Medal, we unanimously award it to Armen Kavaldjian for having come up with the wonderful idea of bringing us, hockey fans, under one roof to share this historic moment in Canadian sports history.
