Ms. Lena Sarkissian, a member of the AGBU Central Board of Directors visited Montreal on Tuesday, November 10, in order to gain a better understanding of AGBU’s operations in Montreal.
Ms. Sarkissian, who was elected to the AGBU’s Central Board of Directors in April 2015, visited the Alex Manoogian School during the day, prior to meeting with its Board members.
She was then welcomed at the AGBU Center by the Montreal Executive Committee, for an informal yet productive meeting. Chairman Chahe Tanachian presented the Chapter’s operations and its upcoming major projects. This was followed by a candid conversation about the Chapter’s challenges, and the coordination between the AGBU’s central operations and its many chapters. Key topics discussed included:
- AGBU’s global efforts for the Syrian-Armenian humanitarian relief
- AGBU’s support to the Chapter’s local efforts to resettle Syrian-Armenian and Iraki-Armenian refugees
- The role of the AGBU Canadian-Armenian Political Affairs Committee (CAPAC) and the need for better representation for AGBU in Ottawa
- Montreal Chapter’s planned launch of a communications team.
As the Central Board’s only Director from Canada, Ms. Sarkissian demonstrated great interest and knowledge in the Montreal Chapter’s operations, and repeated her readiness to strengthen the link between the Montreal Chapter and the Central Board.
